Metallurgical coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground metallurgical coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

-Safety, Health and Hygiene Coordinator – Aquila*
As our Safety, Health and Hygiene Coordinator you will be passionate about driving positive outcomes through strong investigation and reporting that in turn will increases early intervention and improves the outcomes throughout the organisation. Reporting to the Safety, Health and Hygiene Superintendent, you will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of the Anglo American Coal’s Safety and Health systems on site.

  • Assist with developing and implementing the SHE plans and/or companywide initiatives to achieve specific business goals and identify and recommend opportunities to increase the efficiency or effectiveness of SHE service provision.
  • Assist with the maintaining the site Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) and ensure compliance in line with legislative & Anglo American Coal requirements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the corporate and legislative Health and Safety requirements as they apply to the role.
  • Assist with injury management, rehabilitation, return to work and associated worker’s compensation processes.
  • Facilitate hygiene and health monitoring programs in accordance with recognised standard 14 and 15;
  • Undertake accurate and updated planning assumptions are incorporated into periodic reporting documents, short range forecasts and long term plans.
  • Provide timely and appropriate advice and guidance on health, work suitability, hygiene and wellbeing matters as required.
  • Implement health promotion and education programs aligned with requirements of the site safety and health management system, legislation, and mining best practice.
  • Management of the Coal Mine Workers Health Scheme.
  • Operate as the conduit between the Anglo American Chief Medical Advisor, third-party medical and allied health personnel.

Qualifications
-The successful candidate will have;

  • Exceptional organisational skills, professional and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possess the relevant tertiary qualification in the Occupational Safety or related field.
  • Demonstrated previous health and safety experience in a similar role and exposure to the Underground Coal Mining Industry.
  • You will be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • You will have exceptional attention to detail coupled with the ability to manage conflicting tasks in a timely manner.

-This is a Monday to Friday role (5:2), based at our Aquila Mine in Middlemount.
